If you’re fed up with your work, feeling uninspired or stuck… investing a bit of time and effort in solving this issue is hugely rewarding. Let’s face it, we spend too much of our time and energy working, and if we’re unhappy at work it can all too often spill out into our overall enjoyment of life.
We can help you with:
If you’re at a career crossroads, with an important decision to make.
If your circumstances have changed, and your current career choice no longer fits.
If you’ve experienced success but you no longer value these perceived achievements.
If you’re feeling stuck and can’t see any other obvious options.
If you want to make a career shift or change, but don’t know where to start.
If you’re managing an independent business, and you’re unclear on the direction you want to take it.
Coaching in this context is a process which empowers you to explore what you feel motivated to move towards in your work journey. Once you’re clear on where you want to go and why, then coaching can support you through making any adjustments, changes or job applications as needed.
We can tailor our service to your needs, and the number of sessions required will vary depending on your circumstances. To give you an idea of the process we can work through, our career shift programme is designed to help define what you need out of work, and to make that happen. This can be a dramatic career change or just a small shift that makes the world of difference.
There are three distinct phases of the process:
1. Dig deep: all about you.
In order to make the best decisions about your work journey, it’s important to become very clear on a few key aspects of you as an individual. The first few sessions will be a variety of thinking assignments and psychometric assessments to help you define those all-important and sometimes well buried insights:
Clarifying and analysing your natural strengths, passions, motivations, skills, values, lifestyle and career assessment.
Identifying what fulfilling and meaningful work looks like for you, and your idea of success.
During these sessions you will build up a clear work profile, which will likely remain relevant for the rest of your career. This doesn’t mean you’ll be doing the same job, though!
Usually takes 3-4 sessions + 1 longer session of 1.5h to complete the profile.
2. Your work: where to find your sense of purpose.
Once you’re clear on what you need to bring to your work, and get out of it to feel satisfied, then you can start researching where to find that in your work. This is where we brainstorm ideas for your future, what your options could be, and start to pull together a plan.
Using the profile you’ve built from the first stage, we’ll brainstorm, research and discover key directions.
Get creative with visioning exercises if relevant to gain clarity on your direction, then set goals.
Learn to maximise and strategically develop your network in ways that are right for your career.
Usually takes 3-4 sessions.
3. Making it happen.
The final stage moves into taking action, and identifying the practical steps required to make any changes you’ve decided on. It really varies how much support is needed at this point, so this can take the form of coaching sessions or ad hoc support over the phone and email – we will discuss and agree what will work best for you.
Decide on your action plan, and how much support you’ll need to achieve your chosen outcomes.
Define your value proposition, personal brand and new career narrative.
Support in creating the most relevant cover letter, CV, online presence, LinkedIn profile and interview technique.
Support setting up your own enterprise if that’s the route you choose.
Amount of support is agreed together and can be ad hoc.
By the end of the process you should find yourself in a much stronger position to enjoy the rest of your career journey. Finding the right job isn’t so much a destination, it’s about reconnecting with or finding that feeling you’re on a path which you’re excited about travelling.
This is really effective as a way to boost your enjoyment of work / life. It works well if you feel like you’re probably in the right field, but a bit bored or lost your motivation. If you don’t think you need to go through a career shift process but could do with a quick boost, then we can work with you to identify priorities and beneficial changes to improve how you feel on Monday mornings and beyond.
